About the Role

This position requires direct experience and a depth of knowledge on safety factors for the heavy civil and industrial sector. To be successful in the position, the HSE Advisor will have a high degree of emotional intelligence and an ability to balance prioritizing tasks to meet operational needs and proactively guiding the Company towards continuous HSE improvement. This is a long term position with opportunity for increase to full-time.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

* Participate in the coaching of employees promoting health and safety in the workplace, promoting a proactive approach to safety with a focus on prevention
* Provide a voice to employees supporting ongoing improvement in HSE action and policy
* Be a positive role model in the workplace, cultivating strong open lines of communication across organizational boundaries
* Work to promote positive attitudes and a strong safety culture
* Ability to resolve conflict, act as an unbiased support to crew and management
* Maintain a professional demeanor and composure with all stakeholders in the face of adverse conditions
* Conduct inspections to assess potential hazards and risk assessments and determining how risks can be reduced
* Assist in the development of safe work procedures and safety reports
* Support stakeholders in accident or incident investigations and ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and completed
* Promote implementation of policies and safe procedures
* Provide feedback to management identifying successes, areas for improvement and recommendations.
* Conduct orientations including ensuring all documentation is complete and filed
* Coordinate training requirements including needs assessment, scheduling, ensuring completion and documentation properly recorded in company framework
* Responsible to ensure knowledgeable in job site specific hazards and client expectations and requirements. Assist as need to provide a quality safety framework and required documentation prior to job commencement
* Participate in job specific training required by the Company
* Take direction and respect the hierarchical structure of the Company

Meeting & Walks:

* Participate in morning contractor toolbox meetings ? being prepared to speak as required
* Complete regular site visits: type and frequency to be determined by needs of jobs and projects currently in progress. Schedule to be determined by Supervisor
* Participate in Joint Occupational Health and safety Committees as required. Guide and support the growth of the different members in an inclusive team building environment.

Other HSE Responsibilities:

* Intervening on un-safe behaviours as noticed, while following reporting protocol for site
* Participate in team building activities provided by the Company to promote healthy working relationships
* Actively participate in policy updates, providing quality feedback to facilitate ongoing improvement
* Interpret WorkSafe BC related legislation and make recommendations to promote ongoing compliance
* Calculate, track, analyze, and report health and safety statistics

REQUIREMENTS

* Minimum 3-year field HSE experience (commercial/industrial construction or oil & gas)
* CSTS 2020, WHMIS
* Preference given to those with (N)CSO, COR Internal Auditor, TCP Certification
* Intermediate ability to work within a digital framework for documentation administration
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work well with fellow teammates from HSE Department
* Excellent organizational, analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
* Drivers? License to allow for site access as needed to perform duties

WORKING CONDITIONS

* Working in heat ? summer temperatures
* Working in cold ? winter temperatures
* Working in office
* Adapting schedule 8-10 hour days 3-5 days per week as needed based on seasonality and business needs. Availability on weekends will be required during peak season.
