*POSITION SUMMARY*

Working within Long Term Care in an interdisciplinary, team orientated, collaborative practice environment, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the day-to-day management of the nursing unit. The RN supervises and collaborates with Resident Attendants (RAs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and other health professionals, and where resident care is beyond the scope of the LPNs role, the RN direct the LPN and/or assumes direct care provision for the resident?s required care.

The primary purpose of this nursing position is to supervise and manage the provision of current best practice, high quality, holistic, person centered, and family focused nursing care delivery. Using the Nursing Process, the RN provides skilled and competent nursing services according to their scope of practice, the Nursing Code of Ethics as per NANB, the DSD Standards for NB and the facility?s Nursing Department.

This leader understands and models a philosophy of person-centered care with residents, families, and all staff; respecting the capacity of all to maintain independence in decision making, to grow, and contribute to the well-being of others.

*QUALIFICATIONS*

? A Bachelor of Science in Nursing and are currently registered with NANB.

? You have comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.

? Proficiency in the English language is required

? You are available to work a schedule of flexible hours and all shifts inclusive of days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays

? Can provide a CPR & Emergency First Aid Certificate

? A current Vulnerable Sector Check from the RCMP

*RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES*

The RN supervisor, as an integral member of the nursing care team is responsible to:

? Practice within appropriate legal parameters

? Verify resident consent before initiating care

? Advocate and protect the rights of the resident

? Assume responsibility for one?s own actions at all time

? Verify orders and procedures

? Perform within role and meets expected level of competency

? Obligated to report to appropriate authority all incidents of unsafe practice or professional misconduct of nursing or other health providers

? Seek assistance and guidance when the care to be given exceeds personal training

? Incorporate, model, and encourage the behavior of others to reflect occupational professionalism and the Nursing Code of Ethics

? Time management

? Accept, lead, and promote change and innovation; Respect spiritual beliefs and values of all residents

? Respect the dignity and rights to privacy of every resident

? Consult with other health professionals

? Assess skin changes

? Assess changes in elimination

? Assess changes in circulation and oxygenation

? Asses acute symptoms of respiratory distress, circulatory distress, gastric distress inflammation, shock, fluid and electrolyte imbalance, intestinal distress, urinary distress, cerebral and neurological distress, infection, and pain

? Monitor blood glucose and respond to diabetic symptoms and reactions

? Perform assessments using observation, auscultation, palpation, percussion

? Monitor, report, and record oral intake

? Measure, report, and record intake and output

? Measure, report, and record height and weight

? Test urine for glucose and ketones, report and record findings

? Measure, record, and report abdominal girth

? Measure O2 saturation

? Assess and respond to resident?s pain needs
