About the Role

We are seeking an experienced *Finance Manager* to join a well-established law firm in Hamilton. This position oversees the firm?s financial operations, including billing, trust accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and partner-related financial matters.

*Key Responsibilities*

*Billing & Revenue*

* Review and process client invoices, ensuring accuracy of rates, disbursements, taxes, and compliance with client billing guidelines
* Manage electronic billing platforms and monthly billing cycles
* Review settlement statements, calculate fees and taxes, and ensure accurate posting
* Monitor accounts receivable, work-in-progress (WIP), and collections

*Accounting & Reporting*

* Maintain the firm?s legal accounting system, including rate updates and reporting requirements
* Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports
* Produce financial statements and year-end working papers for external accountants
* Coordinate with accounting software vendors and external service providers

*Partner & Firm Financial Support*

* Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
* Calculate and process partner draws and related remittances
* Support partners with financial information requests and proposals
* Attend management and partner meetings as required

*Payroll & HR Administration*

* Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing and reporting
* Manage year-end payroll requirements and statutory filings
* Coordinate employee benefits invoicing and retirement plan contributions

*Trust Accounting & Compliance*

* Manage trust transactions, reconciliations, transfers, investments, and wire payments
* Ensure compliance with Law Society trust accounting and reporting requirements
* Prepare and file required regulatory reports

*General Accounting*

* Process accounts payable, corporate credit cards, and bank reconciliations
* Prepare and post monthly journal entries
* Manage tax filings and remittances (e.g., HST/GST)
* Liaise with financial institutions and maintain signing authority documentation

*Qualifications*

* 5 years of accounting or finance experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
* Strong knowledge of legal billing, trust accounting, and regulatory compliance
* Experience with legal accounting and e-billing systems considered an asset
* Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
* Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
* Proficient in QBO and Microsoft Excel
* CPA designation or equivalent experience is an asset
