About the Role
*Position Summary: *
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for coordinating and organizing all maintenance activities to ensure that production equipment and facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role involves planning preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, scheduling work orders, and ensuring the availability of resources, parts, and tools. The Maintenance Planner works closely with Production, Maintenance Technicians, and other departments to minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
The role also includes monitoring and reporting maintenance performance, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements, including food safety and quality standards. The Maintenance Planner plays a key role in shutdown planning, project support, and implementing best practices to enhance plant productivity while maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.
*Food Safety & Quality Responsibility: *
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring that all maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, and facility modifications are executed in compliance with food safety standards, quality protocols, and regulatory requirements. This includes coordinating with quality assurance and production teams to prevent contamination risks, verifying that maintenance activities do not disrupt product safety, and documenting all work in accordance with GMPs and HACCP guidelines.
Compliance with all food safety and regulatory requirements is mandatory.
*Key Responsibilities:*
Plan and schedule preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance work.
* Develop detailed job plans including labour, parts, tools, and safety requirements.
* Coordinate maintenance work with Production to minimize operational disruption.
* Maintain and manage the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
* Ensure required parts and materials are available before scheduled work.
* Track and report on maintenance metrics such as downtime, PM compliance, and backlog.
* Support continuous improvement initiatives related to reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction.
* Assist with shutdown planning and execution.
* Review completed work orders for accuracy and completeness.
* Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
* Active involvement in plant-floor maintenance operations.
*Qualifications & Experience: *
* 443A Industrial Skilled Trade License required.
* 2?3 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician in a manufacturing environment.
* Minimum 1 year of planning or scheduling experience.
* Trade certification (e.g., Millwright, Electrician) considered an asset.
* Knowledge of preventive maintenance and equipment reliability.
*Skills & Competencies: *
* Strong organizational and time-management skills
* Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities
* Clear communication and coordination skills
* Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); CMMS experience an asset
* Problem-solving and analytical thinking
* Strong safety awareness
*Working Conditions: *
* Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, temperature variations, and production areas.
* Occasional support may be required during shutdowns or outside normal hours.
