Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Willing to relocate. Dental practice. Tasks: Conduct initial dental assessments. Consult with dentists on patient care. Supervise dental assistants in their health care functions. Take dental impressions. Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene. Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease. Apply fluoride treatment. Remove stains and deposits from teeth. Administer local anesthetics. Take, develop and mount X-rays. Apply and remove temporary dressings. Diagnose type and severity of diseases. Perform routine extraction of teeth. Fill cavities. Perform restorative and orthodontic procedures under the direction of a dentist. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Dental Hygienists Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial governing body. Personal suitability: Client focus.
