Childreach Centre is a not-for-profit charitable organization in London, ON. Our goal is to build strong foundations in the early years so that children have the best start in life.

Every summer, we offer a forest day camp for children 5-9 years old.

SUMMARY: The Summer Camp Counsellor is responsible for guiding and leading experiences for children in the outdoor, natural setting of Westminster Ponds. They are responsible for the safety, supervision, development, and growth of the campers in their group. The incumbent will provide engaging, emergent, outdoor experiences for campers.

TERM: 40 hours weekly, occurring between June 29 to August 28, 2026.

Due to the requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program, applicants must meet ALL criteria:

* be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
* be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
* be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Provide attentive, equitable, and engaging day camp experiences for children 5-9 years.
* Guide campers in intentional, meaningful, fun child-led activities and learning opportunities.
* Actively participate and engage with campers in a variety of natural environments and indoor activities.
* Build meaningful relationships with campers, parents, and coworkers.
* Ensure organization policies and procedures for working with children are implemented.
* Work cooperatively with co-counsellors, site Coordinator and Supervisor to ensure a positive work environment.
* Follow policies for communication and conflict resolution.
* Engage in professional development through regularly scheduled check-ins and goal setting.
* Interact with campers using positive guidance and communication techniques.
* Document camper experiences through note taking to share with families (e.g. successes, points of interest).
* As a team, clean and sanitize day camp resources and facilities daily, and ensure sanitization protocols are followed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Licences & Certifications:

* Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate
* Successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

* Minimum 1 year experience working with children in the day camp or recreation environment.
* Knowledge of emergent curriculum and child-led learning.
* Comfort in and understanding of the natural, forested environment.
* Knowledge of native trees, vegetation, animals and insects.
* Skills in empathy, adaptability, initiative, problem solving, stress management.
* Positive attitude and willingness to grow personally as a leader.
* Understanding of and commitment to anti-racism, equity and inclusion in camp and/or childcare settings.
* Priority will be given to Black, Indigenous, and racialized peoples, and people speaking more than one language.
* Commitment to work the entire camp session (June 29-August 28). Time off will not be granted that is in conflict with camp hours
